The Kid’s Kitchen Corner-by Maura
Hi. My name is Maura Schoenjohn and I am 8 years old. This is my first time writing a blog and I am really excited. I like reading, drawing, swimming, soccer, animals, and playing with my sister, my friends, and my little brother, too. My mom is healthier than most moms and also funny and dances in the kitchen a lot while we are cooking. My mom started The Kitchen Remix with her friend, Mrs. Ours, but my mom has always cooked a lot of healthy stuff. I used to be afraid to try new foods but now I am getting better at it.
Sometimes, I wish I could eat all the junk I wanted, but then I realize I would get sick, slow, and tired. When I eat sweets my body reacts more than other kids I know. I will tell you about it. First, after I eat sweets I get a little hyper. After that, I want more sweets even though I feel weird. A little while later, I get tired, sad, grumpy, and feel bad.
Sometimes after school, I am crabby. We make a green smoothie as a snack and I always feel better right away. I feel strong, healthy, and I am in a great mood. I also don’t want sweets as much either after a good smoothie. I like eating vegetables but I don’t like fruit too much. Smoothies help me eat extra healthy stuff so I don’t get sick and can run fast. Most mornings, we drink a green smoothie before we eat anything else like cereal or a waffle or something like that.
Don’t get the wrong idea about The Kitchen Remix. It is not just about eating food that is so healthy that you won’t like it. It is about living a healthy, happy life that includes healthy food, exercise, loving your family time and yourself, and having a good attitude. I make up my own recipes, share different foods with my friends, and have fun trying new things.
This is my favorite smoothie recipe.
2 cups of water (sometimes we use 1 cup of coconut milk)
3 handfuls of spinach
1 scoop of Amazing Grass Kid’s Super Green powder in chocolate flavor
6 pieces of ice
First put the banana in the blender. You have to peel it first. I usually have my sister peel the bananas because I like how they taste but don’t like touching them. Next put in the spinach, add a scoop of the chocolate powder, and finally put the top on your blender. Start the blender and then mix it up for a couple minutes. Enjoy!

This was the first time my friends Montague and Sienna came to my house. I can't believe how much smoothie they drank. That's my sister Megan with the carrot. She's always doing hilarious things like that.
My sister and I like to have our smoothies in special cups with straws so it tastes like a milk shake and it’s more fun, too. Last week I had some friends over for a play date and they liked all of our snacks. At first I thought they would think our food was weird because at their houses they eat different snacks.

My friends loved the smoothies, celery with almond butter, and long carrots with the tops still on (they thought these were funny). One of my friends even tried the carrot top and we pretended we were bunnies. It was really fun.

So don’t be afraid to try new things. When I was little, I didn’t even like ice cream! Now I do because I tried it. But I also like broccoli, cauliflower, beans, lentils, apples, and grapes, and lots of other good things.
