New Year Detox Smoothies

Happy New Year From Mary Ellen and Stephanie of The Kitchen Remix! We wish you a year of health, happiness, and love. On January 1st, we filmed our first cooking show and shared our favorite “detox” smoothies. Whether you have been enjoying the benefits of a green diet or are new to this habit, these smoothies will help you start your day (or year) out right! Remember to use organic produce whenever possible. Smile, laugh, be kind, and drink a lot…of greens.

The Green Machine

2 cups filtered water
2 cups spinach
1 head romaine
2 cups mixed greens (in our video, we use “Zen Blend” by Earthbound farms)
1 green apple
1 carrot
1/2 cucumber
1/4 lemon
1/4 lime
1/2 cup ice
*feel free to zip it up with spices such as cayenne, nutmeg, or vanilla

Blend all of the ingredients in blender until smooth. Try to drink it all throughout the morning (or afternoon).

Coconut Berry Detox Boost

2-3 cups spinach
8 oz raw coconut milk
8 oz water
1 1/2 cup frozen berries
1 banana
1 scoop amazing meal-pomegranate mango infusion
1 cup romaine

Blend all of the ingredients in blender until smooth. Add ice if needed for taste.

Just a quick note to anyone who might be using an old and outdated 🙂 blender instead of a “Vitamix” for example. If you encounter any separation between pulp/liquid (or it is just too heavy with pulp, etc), try using 1/4 to 1/2 of avocado and/or 1/4 to 1/2 banana to help bring it all together/create a smoother texture. I have tried this for the “Basic Green Smoothie – (1st timer)” and it worked great. Extra benefits too! Last, OJ (about 1/4 to 1/2 cup) adds a small amount of sweetness to it and provides nice flavor. To your taste! We’ll be looking into a Vitamix once our blender dies…. Thanks for the inspiration KR! Can I call you KR?
